Smart City Mission


About 32% of India`s Population lived in cities and cities contribution in India`s GDP is about 63%. Extensive development of physical, institutional ,social and economic infrastructure of cities is needed for rapid growth. To put Indian cities at par with global standard central government started smart city mission. This scheme was launched on 29th April 2015. The features of this scheme are to select cities  from all Indian states for their upgradition and development. A total of 100 cities will be chosen through a competition . Central urban development ministry declared a winner list of 20 cities . Winner are chosen through smart city challenge . Following are the major takeaway of the initiative :
* Bhubaneswar tops the list 

* 20 cities of 11 states an union territory of Delhi will be developed in the first  phase .

* List of 20 cities includes Bhubaneswar ( Orissa ),  Pune  ( Maharastra ) , Jaipur  ( Rajasthan ) , Surat ( Gujarat ) , Kochi ( Karala ),  Ahmedabad ( Gujarat ) , Jabalpur ( Madhya Pardesh ) , Visakhapatnam ( Andhra Pardesh ) , Solapur ( Maharastra ) ,  Davanagere ( Karanataka ) , Indore ( Madhya Pardesh ) , New Delhi Municipal Corporation ( Delhi ) , Coimbatore ( tamil Nadu ) , Kakinda ( Andhra Pardesh ) , Belagavi ( Karanataka ) , Udaipur ( Rajasthan ) , Guwahati ( Assam ) , Chennai ( Tamil Tadu ) , Ludhiana ( Panjab ) , and Bhopal ( Madhya Pardesh ) .


* Madhaya Pardesh top the list with three cities .  

* Andhra Pardesh , Karnataka , Tamil Nadu , Gujarat , Rajasthan , and Maharashtra  have two cities each.

* Total Population of these 20 cities is 3.54 crore . 

* Ahmedabad is the only city in the list with population of over 50 Lakhs. 

* A total of  Rs . 50802 crore will be invested for the development of these cities in the next five year . 

* Total 26735 acre land has identified in these 20 cities for the development Project . 



ODISHA (STATE OF INDIA)


Odisha in the first week of June 2016 became the first Indian state to give transgender people social welfare benefits such as a pension, housing and food grains. The state took the step to give the transgender community the same benefits as those living below the poverty line. The step was aimed at improving their overall social and economic status. Member of the transgender community will be given BPL cards. The BPL card will allow them to access   benefits under various government welfare programmes. this includes schemes that provide free housing , 100 days of paid work annually, pensions and loans to start up their own businesses. They will also be entitled to 5 kg of food grains every month under India`s National Food Security Act.
